Ego Trip

Weaving signifies home: rugs, dish towels, darned sweaters- all exist in the interior. This softness is associated with maternal love. I weave structures on an architectural scale to bring that feeling of home and love into public spaces.

Out of curiosity, I began inserting weavings into cityscapes in Google Earth. Through the digital process something nefarious happens. What is meant to inspire feelings of care take on an egomaniacal bent when enlarged to the size of monuments. They become reflections on what happens to the desire for tenderness once it becomes distorted; a desire for love becomes a thirst to be admired. While these exist in public only in the digital realm, we increasingly live our lives on the internet, and their existence in Google Earth still represents a kind of domination.

“Ego Trip” is not only a digital exploration of the world, it is a meditation on conquest, toxic femininity and my own ego.
